We’re delighted to announce that our poster “Co-designing a Health and Wellbeing Profile for Older Adults Within the Irish Health System” has been accepted for presentation at the HSE Integrated Healthcare Conference 2025: Empowering People Through Transforming Care, taking place at the Convention Centre Dublin on September 4th, 2025.
A Co-Design Approach to Health and Wellbeing Planning
Ireland’s population is ageing rapidly, with those aged 65+ projected to reach 1.8 million by 2057. As part of the national move toward population-based service planning, this project set out to co-design a Health and Wellbeing Profile specifically for older adults living within the Dublin South and Wicklow Integrated Health Area (IHA).
The aim was clear: to support integrated, equitable and data-informed planning by developing a profile that captures the needs, priorities, and lived experiences of older adults, while aligning with the Sláintecare regional implementation agenda.
Multi-Sectoral Collaboration, Grounded in Design and Data
Led by a collaborative team from the HSE, UCD and the National College of Art and Design (NCAD), the project used a structured programme-based approach informed by the HSE Change Guide. Key phases included literature review, stakeholder workshops, data mapping, and co-design sessions, all supported by four focused workstreams: Communications & Engagement, Evidence, Design, and Data.
Key achievements to date:
Consensus reached on priority indicators through public and stakeholder engagement.
Integration of older adults’ voices via workshops delivered in partnership with Age Friendly Ireland.
Development of a standardised data catalogue using European templates.
Stronger regional and national collaboration around profile development and usage.
What’s Next?
The final output will include both static and interactive formats of the health and wellbeing profile, along with a toolkit to support replication in other IHAs. By offering a scalable, user-informed blueprint for planning, the project aims to contribute directly to national policy and promote a more person-centred approach to ageing and health service delivery in Ireland.
We look forward to sharing more insights at the conference in September, and to connecting with others working at the intersection of digital innovation, population health, and co-designed care.
