My research is positioned at the intersection of product design, healthcare innovation, design education and human-centred research. I am interested in how design can be used to understand complex experiences, improve care systems and support more meaningful interactions between people, products, services and environments.

A central area of my current research is perinatal bereavement care in Ireland, which I am exploring through a design-led and systems-based approach. This research examines how families, healthcare professionals, support organisations, hospital environments, policies and product systems come together within sensitive care experiences. Through methods such as service mapping, stakeholder engagement, cultural probes, co-design and prototyping, I aim to identify gaps, tensions and opportunities for more compassionate forms of care.

My wider research interests include medical device design, usability, inclusive design, product-service systems, ageing and older adult interaction, design for sensitive contexts, and design pedagogy. Across these areas, I am concerned with how design can translate human experience, technical knowledge and system complexity into more ethical, usable and responsive outcomes.

At the core of my research is a commitment to human-centred, practice-led and socially responsive design, with a particular interest in how design can support care, learning, dignity and meaningful participation.
