Embrace: Using Material Science to Keep Newborns Warm

The Embrace Infant Warmer is a portable system designed to help premature and low-birth-weight babies maintain a safe body temperature where conventional incubators may be unavailable. Its reusable WarmPak uses phase-change material to provide steady warmth for four to six hours after 30 minutes of heating.
Developed by Embrace Global with input from healthcare workers, doctors and parents, the system combines the WarmPak, BabyWrap and AccuTemp Heater with training and local partnerships.
Why I saved this: I was interested in how advanced material behaviour is translated into a simple product suited to unreliable infrastructure.
For design students, Embrace shows that innovation can come from simplifying a system around the realities of use, cleaning, transport, maintenance and parent-child contact.
